MOSQUITOES

Although there are many types of mosquitoes, most people consider all mosquitoes as irritating. The truth is that adult females are the only mosquito stage that feeds on blood, and most female mosquitoes require a blood meal before they can lay fertile eggs. Adult males do not take blood. The transition from larva to mosquito can take anywhere from one day to a few weeks, depending on the type of mosquito. Larva live in water before they transition to flying insects which explains the attraction to wet areas.

What can you do? You may have tried setting up a purple martin birdhouse only to find that their diet is minimally comprised of mosquitoes, and unfortunately, is also comprised of dragonflies which also prey on mosquitoes. Instead, you can choose plants to encourage dragonflies; however, to adequately reduce the mosquito population, the elimination of the breeding site is necessary. Typically, adult mosquitoes like to rest on vegetation and moist, shady areas.

Abra Kadabra’s effective mosquito control plan consists of residual treatments that prevent adult mosquitoes from harboring in areas in and around your home or business. With our mosquito control program, these treatments occur every 21–28 days, depending on the weather.
