One common problem is with the carpenter ant. Chanhassen is one of the most wooded cities in the southwest metro, and all those mature oaks and maples around Lake Ann, Lake Susan, and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum keep colonies well supplied. A satellite nest in a damp window frame or deck post is a short crawl away for them. They don’t eat the wood, they carve it out for nesting space, which is its own kind of bad news. The damage is slow, quiet, and structural.
Another issue that is very common is when you find ants in your home. You may find these tiny, brown, marching ants in a line from the baseboard to a drop of jam on the counter – where you see one, there’s probably many more where it came from.

The colony never left. It overwintered in the soil or a wall void, and warm weather restarts foraging. Treating the colony, not the trail, is what breaks the cycle.
Usually there’s moisture involved somewhere. Carpenter ants prefer wood that’s already damp or softening, so a nest often points to a leak or drainage problem. We’ll show you where during the inspection.
