The best time to eliminate bats in the attic is when they’re most active. In order for them to be properly evicted, temperatures need to be about 50 degrees outside. Once that happens, the bats will be going out at night to forage for food, reproducing and generally living their best bat lives. This is when the experts at Abra Kadabra can perform the most effective bat evictions. However, with Minnesota’s cool weather between November and March, there’s no real way to do a proper bat eviction during that time. That’s because should there be bat activity in the home and you proof it, you risk sealing these creatures inside which guarantees they’ll find a new way to move around within the structure. Oftentimes, that results in the bat coming into the home itself, which increases your potential for being exposed to rabies.
In addition to cold weather removing proper bat eviction from the equation, there’s also a bat “blackout period.” This goes into place in mid July during the time of the year when the juvenile bats are being born and goes until the end of August. It takes between six and eight weeks for these young bats to be able to fly, and then as a result, there’s typically a spike in August when people notice more bat activity in their homes. Bat evictions are typically suspended during this “blackout period” to avoid killing juvenile bats.
