Can I use over-the-counter carpenter ant bait?
Over-the-counter bait is not recommended as it tends to be too strong, killing ants before they can bring it back to the colony. The bait works by being brought back to the colony and fed to larvae, which then supply food to the colony containing the pesticide. For this reason, over-the-counter baits tend to be too fast activating to effectively address the colony.
