Raccoons pick harborage sites to den up in and have their young, because it was the path of least resistance, because of existing pheromones, and other relatively straightforward reasons. We have found that once a wildlife issue has occurred, it is important to remove them, seal all potential entry areas, and remove any pheromone buildup from entries. Homeowners often hope to limit repairs to those entries that have already been exploited, but it carries the risk of leaving other entries for future wildlife. There is always a next path of least resistance to enter a home, until they have all been sealed. An area that was attractive to one animal will also be attractive to future animals. Pheromones and warm gap or vent drafts will entice other nearby wildlife, increasing the possibility of a recurrence.
