Though many of us lump bees, wasps and yellowjackets together into one yellow and black category, they’re actually three different species, each with their own nesting, feeding and general behaviors. Honeybees and bumblebees are typically fuzzy whereas wasps have a more shiny appearance. Additionally, when wasps fly, their legs dangle, making them look a little bit larger and more menacing. Yellowjackets, on the other hand, tuck their legs up so they look smaller. In terms of nesting behaviors, honeybees and yellowjackets generally like to be in a wall or a tree void or even a hole in the ground so they can hide from potential predators.
