“We go into over a thousand attics each year, and the fact is that oftentimes these attics are either insufficiently insulated or the insulation has been disturbed, incorrectly installed, or even contaminated by wildlife activity,” says CEO Matt Eickman. “There’s a real need for this service, and it’s our responsibility to help with that. When I looked at TAP, I knew it was compatible with our focus on being environmentally friendly, so that was a great fit.”
Abra Kadabra now carries TAP Pest Control Insulation (PCI), a blown cellulose insulation that is both insulation and an effective pesticide for in-home use. Whether the entire space is filled with TAP insulation, or only a blow over is done, it prevents most insects from gaining harborage or overwintering in the attic. This diminishes the need for pesticide applications, saving the environment by using recycled materials while also limiting energy loss.
“TAP is made from recycled newsprint and cardboard, keeping it out of the landfill and upcycling it to a product that can be used for the life of the home” explains Chris White, Vice President of sales at TAP CPI. “The product may otherwise be put in the landfill. It also has the ability to save up to 30% on your heating and cooling bills. In its manufacturing, it uses 10x less energy than conventional insulation meaning the environmental impact is less. All of the ingredients are sourced in the US and manufactured in the US. All of this makes it better in its production and use.”
Homes in Minnesota should have a minimum R-value of 49 or above. TAP insulation can be blown over existing insulation to bring it back to the appropriate depth, or it can be used for the whole attic. Indications you may need your insulation assessed include the presence of ice dams, mice or wildlife in the attic, high energy bills or knowledge of attic activity that has heavily disturbed it.
