The Benefits Of Neurologically-Based Chiropractic Care With Axel Osborn Of Legend Chiropractic

Growing up in a very naturopathic, health-conscious family, Axel Osborn has always believed in the importance of taking care of your body and knew that someday, he wanted to help others do the same.

“My parents weren’t even in the healthcare field,” said Osborne, a chiropractor who founded Excelsior-based Legend Chiropractic in 2019. “I was just raised in the mindset of maintaining health and if there’s something wrong, taking care of it holistically was always the best option.”

While many people associate chiropractors with neck cracking and back popping, that’s not how Osborn operates. Instead, he practices what’s called neurologically-based chiropractic care.

“It’s the most scientifically proven adjustment strategy in the world,” said Osborn, who treats all age groups from infants to seniors. “And not only is it highly effective, it’s also very gentle and very safe. There’s never been an adverse effect recorded with this type of care in chiropractic history.”

People generally come to see Osborn with back and muscle pain or headaches and they’re looking to find the root cause of their problem. What it comes down to, Osborn said, is that the brain and the central nervous system control and coordinate every single function in the human body and if the lines of communication aren’t clear in all directions, there could be issues. That’s where Osborn comes in.

“Our main focus is to find the interference between the brain and the body and clear it so those neural impulses that the brain is sending to and from the organs are getting there properly,” he said. “In doing so, we can take care of whatever dysfunction is going on and help people’s bodies heal and function the way they were supposed to, which will ultimately help them feel better along the way.”

Every patient who visits Legend Chiropractic receives an initial neurology-based chiropractic assessment that will guide their treatment going forward. Using state-of-the-art nervous system testing, Osborn can locate where the interference is in the body, how much interference there is and how long the problem may have been going on.

“Through the assessment process and with the use of this technology, I’m able to really customize people’s care based on what they need,” he said. “And it’s completely different for every person.”

The reasons patients come to see Osborn vary, but in the end, they all come down to some form of stress.

“Stress is what causes your brain to get behind in taking care of your body,” he said. “It can be as obvious as major or even minor car accidents to concussions to emotional stress related to work, finances or relationships. Emotional stress actually has a ton to do with how your body is going to function internally.”

Additionally, Osborn sees a lot of patients who spend a large portion of their days sitting at a desk, which can affect spine health.

“There’s a lot of different stressors that can cause issues over time,” he said.

Managing Stress

And because stress is likely always going to be present in our lives, the best thing we can do is learn to minimize it. Here are a few things Osborn recommends to manage stress and help keep your body functioning at its highest level:

  • Invest in a standing desk: According to CDC research, the use of a sit-stand desk reduced upper back and neck pain by 54 percent after four weeks of use.
  • Take five: It can be easy to get wrapped up in your work and before you know it, you’ve been parked in a chair in front of your computer for three hours. Set a notification to remind you to get up and move around for at least five minutes every hour. “It’s phenomenal for your emotional stress but also structurally, it gets your spine moving the way it’s supposed to,” Osborn said.
  • Eat healthy: Fun fact – every cell in your heart gets replaced many times during a single year. Osborn likes to tell patients that having their heart cells replaced by healthy foods such as salads is much better than having them replaced by food from Taco Bell or McDonald’s.
  • Get a handle on emotional stressors: If there are things that are causing you undue emotional stress such as issues with your job or in your relationships, put in some time to figure out what’s causing them so you’re not worrying all the time.
  • Exercise: Yoga and meditation are great for managing stress, but really, any activity that you enjoy and gets you moving is a plus in Osborn’s book. He will also recommend various stretching exercises to his patients based on their situations.
  • Look into chiropractic care: For anyone who has been curious about chiropractic treatment but has hesitated due to the aforementioned popping and cracking, Osborn encourages them to give him a call to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. During that time, they can share the issues they’re having, ask specific questions and learn more about his technique before deciding if they want to move forward with an in-person visit.
